Without being able to read the full article it's difficult to get the context. It's easy to focus on the 'racist' element, but if you don't know his heritage it's just poor journalism for not doing his research.

I cant help but feel its another excuse for scousers and other media outlets to batter The Sun. Maybe it's just because we seem to over react to the slightest of comments that stops me taking this so seriously? Yes, it's rude, unnecessary, a poor attempt at trying to be funny and simply shite journalism. Is it really headline news?

Perhaps we should just Moyes to give him a slap?

I saw this a post on facebook on one of those click bait pop ups,
as I had time to waste I clicked on,
the 2 main protagonists in terms of their vocal anger at the Sun.
Stan Collymore and Joey Barton

whatever the case these 2 rent a gobs will quite happily stick an oar in.. considering they've both been mauled at some point (I would guess by the sun too) their agenda here was quite intriguing.

for what it's worth SR is spot on, its shite journalism and a poor attempt at humour , but FFS is no one allowed to even try take the piss a bit any more ?
I thought Scousers had a "great sense of humour"

I should add that the other day I picked up the Sun in a café while I waited, I sat down and read the front page and then tossed it aside and went on my phone.
it's absolute complete and utter garbage from front to back .

I don't think placing a photo of Ross Barkley next to an ape is going to do anyone any favours.

What gets me is, they would not have done that had they realised his background heritage or the photo was of a black footballer. It's okay to place a white person next to an ape though!

It's not the racism that I 'object' to - as I doubt many people knew that he is of mixed race.

It is the unprovoked personal attack that was so unacceptable.

They're a touchy bunch at the best of times, but at this time of year you shouldn't as much as break wind near Self Pity City. I doubt he knew his grandfather was black & I'm not sure why he's gone for him. On the stereotypes of Scousers, drug dealing and the like, this is not racism, it can't be as they're not a race, they barely qualify as a species.

If, as he's claimed, MacKenzie had no idea that Barkley's grandfather was born in Nigeria, then the REAL racist(s) is/are whoever linked the 'Gorilla' analogy with the origin of his grandfather.

The nature of the attack was pretty shitty anyway, as was the timing of it.

So after doing a little research on kelvin mckenzie, I am 100% behind Ross Barkley the article in my opinion was not or never intended to be racist but it was an unprovoked attack on Barkley. I am inclined to agree with some that it was actually a written attack on the people of Liverpool for no other reason than it is close to the hillsborough anniversary. He (Mackenzie) is well known for his attacks on celebrities either to sell newspapers or just because he isn't a very good journalist. Even if Barkleys IQ is fairly low and he has no common sense what that has to do with his ability as a footballer is beyond me.

if it was an attempt at "football banter" for fans it has no place in a newspaper no matter how much of a joke said newspaper is. Leave the anti vermin stuff to the people who know what they are talking about. Now where is that link to the Aussie comedian🤔😜
