One step forward, two back.
Every time we deliver something to build on we see it fit to take our foot off the gas.
For those sitting behind the goal it must have been like watching tennis. Side to fucking side.
The players don't want to run with the ball. They take too many touches and get closed down or allow the opposition to re-organise. No movement off the ball. It's like a game of table football. |

MODS can someome delete this post please ,and then we can pretend our season ended seven days ago, that way we can actually imagine that we are a half decent side , improving every game and we have a manager capable of motivating a team of 11 year olds _________________ People say I'm condescending. Get to the byline! Do they not do this in training? The lack of movement in the final third is an insult to the club. How is it we could all see that we weren't going to get anything by playing through the middle, yet the players persisted and could not figure out that by playing with pace and width, they'd get more joy? The only player exempt from criticism today is Romelu. I don't like what appears to be distance between the manager and the players. If he sensed they were over celebrating last weeks win, it's his job to make sure they're ready for today, end of!
Did anyone see the bellend outside the Etihad who the studio were speaking to, saying that this City team would have beaten our best teams, and that there is no way to play against this side? I would love to know how he thinks De Bruyne and Silva would have got past Scholes and Keane. _________________ "I think Manchester United is the greatest team in the world. 10 minutes in and I knew we were going to lose, that's the only thing that's consistent about this side. This is a United side that are simply not good enough to be running as little as they do and putting in as little effort as they do. We don't scare people anymore, we don't beat people in the tunnel anymore. Sometimes we don;t even try to beat them on the pitch!
José has to go, his tactics aren't working and players aren't responding to him.
Pogba has to go, he's a complete fraud, he turned up for 20 minutes against city and it had people crowing about how great he is. For me SAF got it 100% right, he let the kid go because he could see the inherent weakness in his game/attitude.
We've spent very badly for 5 years, to many 2nd rate players arriving for big fees. A lot needs to change and quickly. Chelsea, Spurs and the vermin will be better next season & we will be scrapping it out for 5th with Arsenal _________________ The situation regarding spoons remains unchanged, if I see one, I will kill it. |

I see, so last week it was the players who deserved the credit for an inspired comeback.
Maybe this week, we can start to realise that we've got some pretty shite to average players in that first 11 who have massively overachieved in clinging onto 2nd place (so far).
It might be an unpopular view, but in my opinion, apart from the first month or two of the season Matic has been getting away with murder. Every pass he plays is slow, deliberate, and more often than not, to a player under pressure. Maybe, or maybe not it's down to coaching, but he seems to refuse to play the ball wide. _________________ This is Manchester, we do things differently here.

Matic links up play better than any other player we have in that position and today he played it forward and out wide regularly. The problem is that whoever was on the ball today often only had one option for the pass. The movement off the ball is non-existent. _________________ "I think Manchester United is the greatest team in the world. I'd give anything to play for you" - Duncan Edwards.

Movement off the ball, both in possession and without the ball is frankly pathetic and has been for some time.
The real difference with a José team is the total lack of players breaking forward and getting beyond the main striker. You can see that this is coaching, you can see players having to stop and check their runs because it's a natural instinct to run into space, sometimes this is ill disciplined and costs you a goal (Ince had a bad habit of doing this) but sometimes it's absolutely vital in stretching and hurting teams.
For 3 or 4 years now Utd have regularly been in the bottom 2-3 sides in the premier league when it comes to average distance covered during games, it's therefore no surprise that in that period of time, we have been awful to watch, easy to defend against and haven't won the title (or even gotten close). Lets be honest no one could have expected Chelsea to implode the way they have, the vermin have been very inconsistent (they will get better) we will not be 2nd next year with this manager and these tactics. We'll be scrapping with Arsenal for 5th. We've spent £41m more since SAF left than we did in the 27 years he was in charge, compare what we've won, compare how we've played?
We're heading towards a 70's-90's styles abyss unless rapid action is taken. _________________ The situation regarding spoons remains unchanged, if I see one, I will kill it. |

Should it come as a major surprise that we do that when you look at some of the teams against whom we have dropped points this season? Huddersfield? Newcastle? We have struggled at home against some modest opposition, too. Remember those dropped points in November / December?
Mentality, to me, is the issue. The players are talented enough but it was clear early doors the intensity was missing. It often is and not only against mediocre opposition. I don't think I've seen two consecutive good halves all season. The initial selection was puzzling (as was the first change) but there was enough there to get the job done so why didn't they go up the gears?
I think it's partially a lack of leadership - on the pitch certainly and maybe the wrong kind from above. The truth is however the players have to have the mentality to react properly to the guy who makes you feel you have to step up or, when you do, you've won nothing yet. There is a lot of the Spice Boy in some of those players: style over substance. |

100% this all season - and that is why we don't have any running off the ball.
They are all playing with a lead weight tied around their ankle. |

I love when they wheel out the old City players on Sky & they’re all talking about the records “we” are setting & Pep & anslysing what Ciry are “going to achieve”... they probably have a division 2 medal between the lot of them. _________________ We have some right mardy twats as fans, Chubby is the worst. |

^^ This ^^ Being a City legend between 1980 and 2008 was hardly the pinnacle of footballing excellence.
We are just not fluid enough, we haven't been for the last 3 seasons, fairly much since LvG arrived and over-coached the fuck out of them. Of course in those three years we have had games where we've shown flair, tempo and commitment but they've been all too rare for our tastes. United have to play with width, with speed, with energy and with a never say die spirit. Like under LvG I find Jose's United boring to watch, which is the only major problem. There is nothing wrong with the results we've had. We are not where we are because others have been inconsistent, I think that is disingenuous, both Murdering Scum and Spurs have played very well, and we've been consistently ahead of them all season. I would much sooner we played like Spurs and Murdering Scum, win, lose or draw at least it's entertaining. Also, in any typical season we'd have been challenging for the league with the points we've amassed, which in turn would have made our players turn up for the likes of WBA et al. For me we've been playing dead-rubber league football since December, raising ourselves only for the bigger games where some pride was at stake. There is a reality to our results that the borefest of the football on display masks, we're getting the results, we're just boring, I'm sure most would complain equally if we were playing like Murdering Scum and Spurs and not winning anything, damned if we do, damned if we don't. _________________ Nic... I dare say you could kick everyone's arse on Mastermind with United as your specialist subject.... Pedantic wank-wipe. |

David Preece’s reply is comical.
