New season just around the corner, what are your expectations? Will we see an improvement in style? Will we be closer to city?

Transfer in's and outs? Happy? Disappointed? Expect any further business? Who would you bring in?

For me, I'm hoping for a major improvement in style, but I expect much of the same. Jose has until Christmas to show an improvement imo. I don't think city will dominate like they did last season but I suspect a better season from the likes of the dippers, chavs, arsenal... I think Spurs will struggle.

Transfers, not bothered... I've been left disappointed by many of our 'big name' signings in recent years. Instead I'd like to see Jose get the best out of what we have. I wouldnt mind seeing one of Jones/Smalling leave (Both leaving in the same season would be a bit much). Perhaps a bid for Maguire? A back 3 of Maguire, Bailiey and Rojo/Lindelhof could have potential IMO.

Disappointed Blind looks to be leaving. Intelligent player. Could sit along side Matic against the better teams.

Lindelof had a good World Cup so wouldn't mind a back three of Bailly, Lindelof and Rojo/new centre-half.

The biggest change required is to let the players play with an element of freedom and expression. Only in this environment will our skilled and technically gifted players develop and thrive. Can I see it happening, well I certainly won't hold my breath! Jose needs to do a lot more this season with the players at his disposal.

I hope we’ll play with more freedom and play like a United team should.

Think City will be strong, along with Spurs and the Dippers. I think Arsenal will struggle, they will have a post-Wenger period.

We need a centre-back, Maguire would be the right profile type, old fashioned stopper but comfortable enough on the ball.

I wish Blind well, a very slow player rarely exposed for his lack of pace, which speaks volumes about his intelligence as a player. I would like to see Jones, Smalling and Damian leave also, simply not good enough.

Will José get through his third season in tact or will he have a major bust up with the fans / players / owners / press (or all) and fuck off in a a huff?

I think this world cup has shown that football has moved on to a more adventurous, more attacking, less attritional style of play - can he change? Will he change vjange

Has it though? I would like to know how many goals there was from open play compared to past tournaments. Golden boot winner got six, which is about the right amount, nobody other player got more than four. There were a shit load more penalties due to VAR spotting things the ref didn't. I'm not sure we are at an evolutionary stage, I think other factors play as bigger part as a change in coaching philosophy.

Come on Statto, do you job and cunting prove your opinion via the medium of statistics. Laughing

Certainly City, Murdering Scum, Spurs, Arsenal style of play is somewhat different. How may times on here last season, did you read "Good win, but that was shit" etc.

His excuses have surely run out now; it's his team, coached by him, with his signings... he has to win the PL this year, no?

5 years without and counting Wink

Those 5 years reflect that we weren't good enough to win. And?

City play a type of possession football that has been around since 2008. Hardly a new phenomenon in the world game.

Murdering Scum have been playing gegenpressing since Klopp joined but the idea was first introduced in the 1930's that broke with conventional wisdom that when out of possession you needed to retreat to defend. Again, hardly a new phenomenon in the world game.

I freely admit that high pressing can lead to exciting football, but, and it's a big but, does it lead to trophies? The jury is certainly out on that one. Klopp often came second in the two-horse race that is the German league, he's won fuck all at Murdering Scum. Spurs look great but win fuck all. City blow hot and cold.

High pressing is a demanding approach, it requires fitness, stamina and every single player to press at the same time, if one doesn't then the press fails and the team is exposed to a swift counter-attack. Look at the winners of the last 10 Premier Leagues, only one has played high press. Look at the winners of the last 10 Champion's Leagues, Real Madrid have won half of them and they don't play high-press. Look at the winners of the last Euros and last World Cup, neither played high press.

Whilst it may feel like football has changed, moved on, or evolved, in reality it hasn't changed much at all.

City blow hot and cold.

Indeed. Most wins, most points, most goals ever in the PL. Not exactly luke warm eh? Wink

It certainly hasn't at Old Trafford, that's for sure

Oh yes, I forgot I was talking to a Bert and that historical revisionism was to be expected. Yes, you blow hot and cold and have done for a decade, backed up by the fact you've never defended a title of any kind.

On the other point, come back when you've got an honours list worth discussing. At present you're not even level with John O'Shea. Laughing
