Do we think he's played like a world beating CM? Played like the £89million player he is?

I think season after next, will see the very best from him. To many, it's as if he's got as much pressure on his shoulders to market United's sponsors and his haircut as well as his 'bantz' with Ibra, than the pressure of playing some class football.

Some moments of brilliance from him. There is no doubt that his technical ability is second-to-none. The mentality side of things seems very weak right now. I want to see him score 25/30 yarders and to change the game when possible, if all is going to shit.

What are your thoughts? Where is his best position and who does he play best with?

At the moment, it feels like:

--- Carrick
--- Pogba --- Hererra

He plays better when Carrick is there, he gets the freedom to try things and is less constrained by defensive responsibility. I think he's been very good, our best games have coincided with his best games, which should tell us something. I expect more from him in coming seasons as he matures, he's still a very young player and with the greatest respect to Italian football, it's hardly played at the same pace as the Premier League, he'd adapting.

We need a replacement for Carrick though if we're to get the best out of Pogba.

I don't know what kind of player he is or is meant to be.

He doesn't dominate people physically, he isn't box to box, touch line to touch line. He's not all tackles and snot.

He doesn't humiliate people with flair, guile and trickery. He doesn't ghost past players and slide cheeky reverse balls into players feet.

He doesn't ping balls 60 yards so strikers don't even have to break stride. He doesn't curl crosses in from daft angles without having to beat the 1st defender. He isn't everyone elses 'out ball'.

He 'seems' like he could be all these things and more but he isn't. Maybe time will tell and he'll grow into a role and stamp himself into the team.

Maybe I'm old and past it but in my book the most expensive midfielder in the world makes the position his own. What he absolutely doesn't do is NEED someone else in there next to him to make him tick.

He's done OK, but I expect more.

One things for certain, when he plays well we usually win. Just need a bit of consistency, and perhaps for him to turn up in a big game.

I think he pulls far to much attention his way. The hair cuts, hash tags etc. For someone of his size and build he looks extremely weak in the air.

Some may say £89m is over priced but he is a walking advert for the club and Adidas and will no doubt pocket many millions making his a good buy from a business perspective.

I disagree to some extend Zoo. I think he has done most, if not all of those things. He's just not consistent. Look at some of his assists to Zlatan, a couple coming from mid field. He's shown some sublime footwork to make himself space, or open up defenses. But it only happens two or three times a match. At his age, inconsistency is to be expected, and I do think that in a season or two he'll start to look as good as he thinks he is.

Agree except your last paragraph .

I think people should remember that

(a) he is three months younger than Lingard and
(b) it wasn't his idea to hang the world's most expensive player price tag around his neck.

For his age, he is brilliant. He will improve further.

I hope you're not trying to use this to prove any sort of point JS? Laughing

I think people are over doing the "He's only a kid".

He's played 178 times for Juventus winning 4 league titles, 2 Italian cups and 2 Italian super cups. He's made 44 appearances for France and played at a European championship and a world cup.

What's the Busby quote? "If you're good enough you're old enough". He's 24 in a fortnight with well over 250 appearances at the highest levels in football.

Taking some time to get used to the league is one thing (even though he played in Britain for 3 years already) but if he's the best midfielder in the world then he needs to dominate and he simply isn't doing that. Certainly not on anything like a regular basis.

I see more effort & energy from other midfielders, I see more craft and guile from other midfielders so what is it that he brings?

Good point, but also to add;24 is not young. He has played for years, and has got to where he is for a reason.
Saying he is young is more of a cop out for him.

If he had scored instead of hitting the post so many times this season I doubt there would be any discussion on this at all. He's a class act who probably needs to get involved in games more, but his ability is undoubted. Let him settle into the team properly and start scoring more, when he does, we'll have a real player on our hands.

not trying to prove anything Zoo, i'm a tad confused as to what people think im trying to insinuate ?
I like him, but he frustrates me ( not the only Utd player who does that either Wink )
he's not young but he's far from old, he seems to have too much showman in him, he's acting like he has to impress, rather than playing as well as he can and letting simple quality be the thing that people get impressed by.

no problem from players trying to entertain, it's what we pay to see, but I feel he needs to mature . hence the comment.

possibly he'll settle into a role once he learns what that role is. Confused

did that make any sense at all ..... Embarassed Confused

I keep trying to forget about his transfer fee. If he kept his head down and cracked on with it I might have a chance, but while he keeps painting his hair silly colours and doing needless, showboating bollocks in midfield I'm physically unable to. And that's what's pissing me off.

He's clearly not worth the money we paid, but also clearly a talented player. IMO his versatility and skill set are great assets, and will make him a great player as long as he learns when and where to use them.

He'll come good. He's frustrating right now though.

I have been to too many of this type of game at home this season. Apart from the first half hour it could have been LVG's team.

Herrera was missing for me. Ibra and Pogba can't be brought off even when they are liabilities. Rooney and Shaw come back and the team fails to gel so either bad luck or it says something, possibly both.

The ref made it hard for himself by letting that first charge on Jones go because it was an underdog challenge. We never recovered from their ridiculous sending off but they earned their luck after that and Boruc is not the first keeper to put in a good show, although I think most of those chances were missed rather than saved. It is no secret that we don't score many.

Pogba is in danger of becoming a reincarnation of the Spice Boys. They were talented, too. They made Their reputations out of coming second.

I was a bit on the fence regarding Pogba, after this game I've made my mind up on him
