come next Wednesday we will find ourselves in a very strange position I feel..
the whole quality of our season will be encapsulated in one result .....

if we win, fantastic season, we will have qualified for champions league , won a second major trophy , and lifted the 2nd largest cup available to any side in Europe (and also won the only trophy we haven't won )

Laughing

if we lose, I honestly feel we can only say this has been a poor season , the failure to score in so many games , the stale football, the reliance on an aging superstar or a young kid. the inability to beat so many lesser sides when we have so much possession. etc etc

Sad

I am overly pessimistic sometimes ( Wink )
but does it all hinge on one game?

Mourinho certainly has set himself up for one nervy night.

As a new manager you'll generally be judged against what was achieved the previous season. In this case, 5th position and the FA Cup. If we win on Wednesday we'll have two cups and Champions League football next season. Not bad. If we don't, it'll just be one lesser domestic cup and a position lower in the league. Plus another season playing Thursday evenings. Added to the dire football we've been playing post-Christmas, the money spent, and the fact we still appear to need loads of squad changes, it won't look good.

I still reckon we'll be much better next season - especially in attack - but Wednesday's result could set up how much work will need to be done.

My main concern right now is that our limp end to the Premiership campaign doesn't look like the best way to prepare for a big cup final. We look as low in confidence as we have at any point this season.

Confused

I will be in the US on business. I'm going to meet up with the Dallas Reds at a bar they use, looking forward to it.

It's strange, isn't it..

A loss would, on paper, make this season our worst since Moyes (there are positives, but league position is the real mark of success). And if we win, the most successful post SAF...

Has one result ever been such a huge swing between success and failure?

I really fear a defeat. Not just because it would be another step backwards, imo, but because we could do without another EL campaign. Add to that the knock on effect of our potential transfer activity.

We are approaching the game with no momentum, injuries and suspensions and with players likely to be a bit rusty, having not played for a few weeks. Everything is pointing to a horrible performance and a painful defeat...

I think I would prefer him to play a midfield of Pogba, Herrera and Mata with Mkhi, Martial and Rashford in attack. I suspect however we will sacrifice the attacking Mata because only Herrera can be guaranteed to keep his focus out of the other two. Thus it will probably be Felli.

The defence looks as if it will be Romero, Valencia, Smalling, Blind and Darmian. Jones maybe.

This does suggest more of the attrition.

Jackl,

Stop fretting. We will be out run by an more enthusiastic team and we will lose 2 nil.

I met Aaran and a few other of the Dallas Reds in Washington for the Roma match a couple of years ago. Had a few jars in Detroit and Chicago too. Good bunch of lads. You'll enjoy yourself.

3-1 to united, rashford gets a couple and mikhitarian the third, Ajax of course scores the first goal, uniteds attack run them ragged for most of the game, our defence holds fast after an early blunder by jones gifts them a goal, romero has a blinder and pulls off a couple of important saves late on in the game. There I've said it, if we fall on our arses you can blame me

U,N,I - T,E,D, UNITED ARE THE TEAM FOR ME........

Honestly cannot see our makeshift defence keeping their attacking 5 at bay, and I think our midfield will be over-run by their youthful exuberance.

I'm expecting a really poor performance from United, and I think we'll be on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

Their attacking 5? Has anybody even watched a few Ajax games? I haven't seen them.

That fuckin Depay ripped the Dutch league up & he was shit. I have no idea if these are more of the same but Dutch football is gone down the shitter ladt few years.

So are we though so it could be nail biting. No idea how it will go but I'm getting pissed either way.

Keep the red flag flying high & fuck every other cunt.

All the pundits and journalists are saying if we win tonight it will be a good season, two trophies and back into the Champions League

But if we lose the season will have been unacceptable.

Maybe financially but in terms of football it can't be so binary. In 90 minutes anything can happy. Good luck, bad luck can change the game and make you win or lose. To judge the whole season on these last 90 minutes would just be emotional rather than logical.

We were up until the last 3 games challenging for the top 4, we won one cup, and we've got to a European Cup final. Most teams, Arsenal included would swap places with us - so it has to be a relatively successful season. Yes, some players have not lived up to expectations, Martial, and we have not scored enough goals, but the whole report card can't be judged on 90 minutes.

And I would rather get relegated than have Diego Costa in my team.
