Retiring tomorrow. What a great signing at a time when we really needed him.

Underrated by many fans (including our own) throughout his time here.

Arrives in 2007, settles into a midfield that had a massive Roy Keane shaped hole in it.

3 leagues and a European Cup as soon as he arrived was no coincidence IMHO, and a fixture in our midfield consistently for 10 years.

Classy, unfussy operator.

Hardly injured.

Model pro.

Could’ve got more goals, could’ve been a louder voice on the pitch at times. Could’ve uprooted more trees.

But we will miss him. Would kill for him at his peak right now that’s for sure.

Wallsend Boys Club boy, like Shearer, Beardsley and our own Steve Bruce. None of them signed by Newcastle Very Happy Very Happy.

I recall the film of him interviewed when he played for WBC in 96 just before he went to West Ham. Newcastle were the entertainers and he was asked about the threat from Man United.

Same grin on his face he has now and he replies, "they're rubbish them!"

Not the most exciting of players, but there was a clear difference when he was in/out of the team.

There was no doubt he done the simple things well. And, as demeaning as that might sound, we have a £90m player who can't appear to do anything simple.

As a bloke he always represented his club well. Never making headlines, none of this social media and self promotion bollocks. Just done his job.

I see Faria is stepping down as assistant. Carrick a possible replacement??

JM could do himself a huge favour in appointing Carrick as his assistant.

If it works, it would be a masterstroke. If not, at least he was given the opportunity.

He was fabulously under-rated, probably because he wasn’t loud, flashy, or arrogant. Rarely made mistakes in his prime, made the game look simple (which it is) and his arrival made us better at a time where Scholes was injured and his powers fading.

Another odd fact is that SAF said Jose told him Carrick was the man United needed. Kind of full circle then.

You must recall a lot of traffic on here when some were complaining about a weak central mid. It was Scholes and Carrick. Ahead of its time.

What a thoroughly decent chap.
A totally credible footballer who is universally respected.
Glad we had him. The 16 on his back did not wear heavily.

Great player. Loved him. Could always rely on Carrick.

My mate is Feeder Club FC & couldn’t understand how he was a united player. I said he is exactly right for United. Metronomic in midfield.
