Disappointing is a bit of an understatement.

We finished 19 points and +39 goals behind city, we're not going to close that gap without some changes.

We spent £67m and recouped around £24m so a net investment of around £43m? We needed more. With Carrick retiring, Tim FM on loan and a few youth team released we've not exactly broken the bank on wages either.

The manager has been publicly bullying Shaw for 18 months so far it hasn't worked and he has less than 12 months left on his contract, in fact in 143 days he can sign a pre-contract with another club and move for free an investment of over £40m including wages potentially pissed down the tubes.

The manager has now turned his sights on Anthony Martial and his very public chasing of a centre half this summer having bought Bailly and Lindelhof must be destabilising for them.

Regardless of how many errors Smalling & Jones make they seem to be teflon coated.

I've said for some time that the entire scouting, recruitment & retention policy at United is broken, it has been for the last 7-8 years, so including SAF's last few years. We've spent £645m or there about since SAF left but recovered around £235m which means over a 6 season period we've invested £68m a season. I think that's a pretty reasonable figure but when I look at the squad De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Young & Valencia are still here and probably still the managers 1st choice. We've lost players like Vidic, Evra and Rio, the replacements don't even come close!

It's in the midfield and up front that the major changes have taken place but we've lost players like RVP, Rooney, Nani, Giggs, Scholes, Welbeck & Hernandez. Some of those naturally came to the end of their career some never realised their potential but have we really replaced them with the same quality?

Zaha, Januzaj, Kagawa, Mkhitarayan, Di Maria, Depay and others have come and gone and yet last season we scored just 68 league goals. Something isn't right, big money has been spent, we are horrible to watch and we have a manager openly attacking his players and his board, trust me we are heading into a period like the early-mid 70's, football wilderness and fans are still denying this.

FFS! Yes, we know. We are all going to die. Just not today.

Surprised we haven't started lubing up in anticipation of Daniel Levy. Still...a few more days to go.
Statistics are like a lamp-post to a drunken man - more for leaning on than illumination.
