Zoo, chubby... you both have valid points.

Chubby, your point on RVN is spot on, but very few strikers/forwards share his style these days. Like the 442 formation, the goal poacher is no longer fashionable and its debatable if it can work in the modern game.

The forwards of today are expected to be adaptable. They can play left/right or as a striker. They would likely find themselves in all these positions during a game, switching with their teammates several times in a game.

This is one of our problems we have going forward. We are so rigid. Why does Rashford need to stay on the left? Why does Martial need to stay through the middle? What prevents them picking up the position they feel they can be most effective at any given time during a game? Sanchez is a player who has shown he can play most forward positions and be one of the best in the league in all of them, but for us he has been shite in all of them. Lukaku used to get in behind the defenders. He might not be a 'united player' but he was far more effective at Everton. Why?

I don't want to bang the Jose out drum again, but I think we should reserve judgement on our attacking players until they are given a chance to play under a manager. A manager that allows his players play with freedom.

^^^ This ^^^

I'm surprised Jose has lasted this long, particularly as we're going backwards in style, performance and results. A great win at Juventus has been the only positive moment this season, with late goals also being welcome, but that's about it.
