I can't believe my eyes. Should I cry? Laugh? Both?

That felt like United again, good verve, great movement, goals, defence splitting passes, a direct free kick goal, a forward rounding a keeper.

Let's get giddy! Very, very giddy!

Merry Christmas, all.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Nearly tearful, more through relief than anything else but that is the way we should be playing and I’ve missed it so much. Welcome back Manchester United Football Club, we’ve missed you.

It's hard not to get a little giddy... especially when The legend that is Ole's return has caused city and the chelsea to be running scared Wink .

On a serious note, after that penalty was scored, I thought it would see heads drop, nerves would kick in etc.

We played some good stuff. I still don't think it was perfect. The legend that is Ole's had 2 days to work with the lads. Thats not enough time to get things right. What we saw today wasn't the impact of The legend that is Ole's arrival (without taking anything away from him). It's the fact the players had the freedom to play.

I think we can improve further. But lets enjoy the first step into a new era.

Holy fuck, I remember that style of football. Welcome back The legend that is Ole. Win or lose, at least we will do it the United way while he is in charge.

Star man. Just lovely to see him back. He’s no master tactician but I couldn’t give a fuck.

If he got us relegated, I still wouldn’t say anything bad about OGS.

long long way to go, but that was actually good to watch.

fuck me it's not rocket science is it..............

pass the ball forward whenever possible,
only take 1 touche then pass,
pass the ball and move,

the first three things 0le would have coached them in the last 3 days

....wtf was jose coaching them for the last 3 years ?

our next 3 games are all what you would class as very winnable, early days yet i know, but if we play like yesterday, gather some momentum and continue to look like they enjoy their work, well who knows.......

we may finish 7th

I am delighted for The legend that is Ole, he's special and I want him to have a good experience.

However, I can't help being furious both with the players, who clearly downed tools and the board who allowed this ridiculous situation to occur and then fester.

How can those players shave this morning? How can they look at their own face and not feel shame? We've all had to work in a department for a manager that we didn't get on with or didn't agree with but we still turned up and got on with our job. Just where was their professional pride?

The one key stat for me was that this is the first time all season that Utd have run more than their opposition. The players are cheating the club, cheating the fans, they shouldn't get our adulation.

How did the board allow the obvious situation to go on so long? Why give Jose a contract and then no support him in the transfer market, why allow the wholesale down tools (bordering on strike action to be fair) and not step in before? Why reward Smalling with a contract when he was clearly among the players deliberately not trying?

What kind of message have they sent out between them? I fear Utd have become a laughing stock in the football world so as great as it was to see yesterday and as pleased as I was for The legend that is Ole, I think long term there will be ramifications and stormy waters. Whom ever gets the gig full time better be a great surgeon because he has one hell of a cancer to cut out of the club.

I don’t disagree with any of that. Players should not be praised for suddenly turning on their talent. However, a bad leader is poison that ultimately infects everything they touch. It sounds like the whole club, from the reception lady, to the tea lady to the coaching staff to the players were working in a toxic environment. The legend that is Ole has come in and brought a smile, a breath of fresh air, a way of working that has simply lifted everyone. Football is a serious business but it’s also supposed to be fun, can’t have been much fun playing for LvG or Jose, so rigid in their approach it left no room for self-expression to flourish. Moyes brought nerves, too much change and a defeatist mentality. The legend that is Ole came in with a smile and told everyone they were brilliant, got everyone to smile again and set them free, the result and performance was a result of that freedom I think.

Respectfully, I would disagree with this Zoo. United downed tools, Chelsea downed tools, Real Madrid downed tools. And the common factor was, who? I don’t think it is just coincidence.

It’s the manager’s job to motivate players, above all else. The coaches teach them fitness and skills but tactics and motivation are all down to the gaffer. Your point about being professional when working for a bad manager - yes you should turn up and do your job but would you give 110% for someone who acts like a dick and criticises you all the time?

We all know that the difference between an ordinary team and a winning team is that the players have to be willing to go that extra mile to be winners. They would run through brick walls for SAF, because he protected and encouraged them. I never saw that in Mourinho, so I would not expect the players to do more than turn up and follow orders. They may be getting paid a fortune but it takes more than money to motivate someone to dig deep when they don’t have to. I don’t think Mourinho has that in him any more.

That and the Arsenal game in the last few years are the only ones I have really enjoyed.
Not going to get giddy on where we could go from now on, but at least we played with a purpose, and excitement.

As what has been said how could the board have allowed the utter shite over the last few years.

What ever J.M must be thinking after seeing united play as they used to play, and where is Nic? I thought he would be on here by now rabbiting some shite.

The amount of games I've enjoyed in the last 5 years can be counted on two hands, one hand if you're from Burnley.

Nic has gone missing after the weekend, don't know why.

I don't think any of them stopped playing. They just looked confused and panicky and low in confidence. Loads of teams benefit from the 'new manager boost', they're not just putting in more effort. If you look at the stats throughout Mourinho's reign we were always at the bottom of the table in distance covered - that's what comes with the territory when you're a defensive, sitting back team rather than high pressing and attacking. That said, Pogba's got a lot to do in the next few months to regain my trust - his social media shit alone leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Again, the one accusation I wouldn't throw at Smalling is that he wasn't trying. He's been godawful all season but IMO certainly not down to a lack of effort. Even Sanchez - who's a contender for the worst signing this club has ever made - is always full of beans, just no direction.

The criticism of the board stands up though. We had three opportunities to get rid of Jose - about a year ago when we were pretty much out of contention for the league and our performances were starting to deteriorate; in the summer when we had clearly flatlined in progression and he went off on one about lack of transfers (and anything and everything else); and a month or two ago when the writing was on the wall. We waited and waited and waited now we've got very little to play for this season. And we allowed the situation to get worse and will have to spend longer in recovery.

If any of our players are ever found to have intentionally 'downed tools' I want to see them hanging from the main stand, but the fact is we just had a miserable manager with poor tactics who was a square peg in a round hole. The result was inevitable even before he was appointed.
